- The figures for the period 1996-2000 were taken from Page 58 of the Courts Service Annual Report for 2000 which provided a retrospective table in relation to all types of business in the District Court 1996-2000. In 2004, the method of reporting changed, and the figures from that point on, refer to the total number of indictable (headline) cases dealt with summarily and summary (non-headline) cases disposed of in the District Court.
Note: Each individual offence a defendant is charged with is counted as a separate 'case'. For instance, if a single defendant is charged with 'assault' and 'criminal damage', this will count as two cases in the statistics, with two disposals.
