These overarching imperatives are incorporated into yearly targeted results driven Policing Plans. The Garda Síochána Corporate Strategy 2007-2009 is heavily influenced by the programme of reform and and modernisation necessitated by the Garda Síochána Act 2005.
The Strategy embodies a 'Community-Focused Policing' approach. This involves local-level community engagement and 'problem solving' policing, "empowering local communities and community policing teams to engage in joint community safety initiatives".
